never suffer a single boss

It's 10:30 on a wednesday night, do you know where I should be but am not? You guessed it! I'm NOT at home. I AM STILL AT WORK.

When I graduated college, I had a great commencement speaker. I don't remember her name, but I remember the speech. It was about 10 minutes long and went directly to the point and to this day I remember those words every late night I sit in front of a computer. She said "Never suffer a fool for a boss."

I think in my years of working, I am able to add a little kernel to that… Never suffer a single, middle-age women for a boss cause she ain't got nothin better to do with her nights then to fill her lonely hours with work

Notes on Vegas

This is a nice public place to share notes about the trip so everyone can see them and make comments...

Since some people will be coming single and from different cities, below is a proposed option for how to best split costs...

Air from Austin is slight more expensive $350 vs $303 from ATL
Package deal from Austin would be $969.30
Package deal from ATL would be $1220.90

Makes more sense then to book flight from ATL and to book package from Austin and split the difference in hotel.

I would suggest subtracting the $325 from the $969.30 and divide by 2 to figure out the costs

So a little over $600 average for them which puts it about right for those that can book together.

$14 bought me a whole lotta love

I'm going to disagree with the old addage that money can't buy you love. Now it may by true that you can't purchase a smile for a buck or get a shoulder to cry on for a twenty, but for $14, you can get a very hairy wiggling bundle of love that wants nothing more then to be by your side. That's what we paid for our dog at the Santa Monica animal shelter.

Of course the $14 itself was no guarentee that she would greet our return home from a long day at work or just a short trip to the dumpster with the eagerness and gratitude of a loved one returning from war, or that she would preen every square inch of exposed skin with a motherly attentiveness. The $14 didn't do anything but give us and her a chance to fall in love.

PS: The above is inpsired by a charming book I just finished. "Marley & Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog" by John Grogan. Highly recommend it to anyone who has ever loved a pet.

My computer is sick

So looks like I have the equivalent of a snow day for an adult in southern california, my computer is borken!!!!! YAY!!! This is my back up machine at work but it only has the software that came with the OS so I'm effectively useless until the IT guy comes back with my computer. Which means...I have an actual five minutes or more to spend today...yay, the world rejoices cause they can hear my ramble now.

Course, the world consists of two people in my bloggersphere so let's see what I can do to offend them both....then again, I live with one half of that sphere so let's see what I can do to offend the half I don't have to actually talk to :)

Looks like the Broncos couldn't quite get it up in Mile High! Go Seahawks! I love rain.
